It is also a precursor of glutathione, a major antioxidant. Glutathione is activated by the selenium-containing glutathione peroxidase, one of the most important antioxidant enzymes in the body. N-Acetyl cysteine is better than glutathione supplements, which may break down during digestion and lose potency. (These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Great for Liver Health Jul 14, 2011
By Kanashiitaka N-Acetyl-Cysteine is what they use for people who have liver poisoning or Tylenol (liver damage). This is one of the reasons I bought it, my liver is failing from years of Chemotherapy and chronic (high) Tylenol use. While I am NOT a doctor and cannot claim that this "saves lives" it HAS helped my liver begin to regenerate some and ease some of my symptoms. I am still under the care of a Hepatologist (Liver specialist) but if you have ANY kind of liver damage or problem (Cirrhosis, fatty liver, chemotherapy damage, etc) then this is a product that certainly cannot hurt.
I received my product very quickly, and Source is a good company. The pills ARE very "bitter" and large, so you can either break them in half or follow maybe with a bit of applesauce? But do not be surprised at the bitterness. If it wasn't so bitter I would give it a 5 star rating. I normally take 3 of these a day.

By nejnadusho If you buy it you have to split it if you want to use it for a regular intake.

dissatisfied in Ohio Jul 02, 2011
By janiekh the last two bottles I purchased of N-AcetylCyceine pills were a huge disappointment. I had to throw the one bottle away because the pills smelled like rotten eggs. So I opened up the new bottle just sent to me and they too are starting to smell like rotten eggs. Do not know why this is happening but I will never purchase this brand again.
